Growth &

evolution

Organisations that stay the same are more than likely moving backwards in their goal for long-term stability and success. This unit recognises that there are advantages to remaining a small business compared to a large business, however, business growth is not always about becoming the biggest. Economies of scale is a key concept that many growing business aim for, but growth can create diseconomies of scale if not planned and implemented effectively. Globalisation and the role of MNCs in different countries has allowed global growth to occur, posing benefits and challenges to organisations who choose this path.
 
Finally, the methods of internal and external growth are investigated, including joint ventures, strategic alliances, mergers, acquisitions and franchising.
